Version history and review history

How to access a document's version history and review history

Let's take a look at version history and review history in Cognidox. We can access the version history of a document in two ways: either through the shortcut in the Document Details window or via the Action sidebar.

Viewing Version History

  • The version history page displays all drafts and issues created for the document.
  • Each version indicates whether a review was requested and how many responses were received. For example, one version might show a single review request with one response, while another may have multiple requests and responses.
  • At any stage, you can click on a version to view the review details and comments. This allows you to track feedback and changes over time.

Reviewing Comments and Discussions

  • The review history includes responses from different users, creating a dialogue around the document. For example, if a user named Pakesh submitted a review, we can see the comments left by others in response to his feedback. This creates a threaded discussion where users can clarify and refine the document collaboratively.
  • Although reviews can continue indefinitely, it’s generally not practical to add comments to older drafts. However, users can always revisit previous versions to understand the discussions and decisions made at that stage. This makes the review history a valuable tool for tracking document evolution.

Sorting and Filtering

  • To navigate through the version history more efficiently, Cognidox provides sorting options. Users can sort versions from newest to oldest or vice versa.
  • Additionally, a filter tool helps refine the view, making it easier to locate specific versions or comments.
  • The version history and review history features in Cognidox offer a structured way to document discussions, track decisions, and ensure clarity in document management.
