Promoting and approving a draft
How to promote a draft to an issue, and approve it
In Cognidox, only issues can be approved, while drafts remain unapproved until promoted to an issue. You can:
- Promote a draft to an issue, without having to upload a new version
- Upload a new issue version of the document and approve that.
We'll look at the first method in this article.

The video explains how to identify and promote a draft to an issue, before approval. Check out the summary below.
Identifying a Draft
-
If the latest version of a document is a draft, there will be no approval option or shortcut.
-
The Action Sidebar will not display an option to request or approve the document.
Promoting a Draft to an Issue
To approve a document, it must first be promoted from a draft to an issue:
-
Open the draft version of the document.
-
Select the Promote to Issue option.
-
Add a comment if required.
-
Once the draft is promoted, it becomes an issue that can be approved.
Requesting Approval After Promotion
If you do not have approval rights, you can promote the draft to an issue and then request approval from an authorized user.
Conclusion
Approving a document in Cognidox is a structured process. Drafts must either be promoted to issues, or a new issue version must be uploaded, before they can be approved. Once a document reaches an issue status, it follows the standard approval workflow. For further assistance, refer to your Cognidox administrator.
