How to copy and clone categories and documents

You have plenty of options when it comes to copying and cloning categories, from creating a duplicate but empty category structure, right through to copying and multi-categorising documents and document holders within cloned categories.

Walkthrough video

In this video, Vittal walks you through the various ways of cloning categories. The video was made using Cognidox version 10.2. There are a couple of new document handling options as of version 10.4, and we point them out part-way through the video.

There's a lot of information in the video above. We won't reproduce everything in the video, but here's a brief recap on how to access the clone functionality and get started:

  1. Navigate to the category, click Manage this Category, and display the Copy tab.
  2. Enter the New location and (if required) a new Name for the cloned category.
  3. Set up the copy/clone options to suit your requirements, including how documents are handled, and whether to use text replacement (the video is really helpful here) and click Copy Category.
